With over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, academics and independent consulting, Dr. Blumenfeld provides a wealth of expertise and talent. As VP of the Educational Institute, Dr. Blumenfeld develops curricula, moderates and facilitates conferences and provides oversight for all health professional education. He works closely with the nutraMetrix clinical and guest faculty as well as the accreditation partners to accomplish the mission and goals of the Educational Institute.
Dr. Blumenfeld also serves as the Chief Medical Officer of nutraMetrix Advanced Nutraceuticals, the health professional division of Market America. In this capacity, he oversees special projects, clinical research, participates in strategic planning and advises executives as a member of the Management Team. As head of the Clinical Research Committee, Dr. Blumenfeld identifies key areas for research funding, coordinates academic partnerships and determines grant awards. He is presently coauthoring several papers on the role and efficacy of OPC bioflavonoids in humans.
After receiving his Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College, he completed a 3 year residency in pediatrics and was selected to pursue a 2 year post doctoral fellowship in allergy and clinical immunology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. As a fellow, he concentrated in food allergy and conducted original research investigating the role of food allergy in asthma. In academics, he served on the faculty of New York Medical College in the Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. Working with a multi-disciplinary team, he diagnosed, treated and managed children with HIV and other immune deficiencies. He taught hundreds of medical students and resident physicians and evaluated candidates for medical school admissions and residency training.
As a clinician, he was Chair of the Allergy/Immunology Department of a multi-specialty clinic with over 130 physicians in Charlotte, North Carolina while establishing new standards in practice guidelines. As VP of an Institutional Review Board (IRB), he oversaw the ethics for all proposed clinical research protocols. He guided the IRB in evaluating study design and usefulness of experimental medications, biologic response modifiers and vaccine trials.
With a passion for teaching, he established a mentoring program for family physicians at the medical center and has lectured extensively to physicians, medical students and the public.
As a founder and president of a consulting group, he advised industry on marketing strategies and created courses for sales reps. Just weeks after September 11, 2001, Dr. Blumenfeld designed and implemented the first-of-its kind program to promote health and homeland security for the corporate work force. This program, recognized by a University and a national industry association enjoyed the endorsement of his congresswoman and US Senator. And as a concerned citizen, he served as Chair of the Education Committee for the Charlotte Homeland Security Working Group and was a member of the All Hazards Advisory Committee for the Charlotte region.

Dr. Pam Avery provides a wealth of expertise and unique credentials. After practicing traditional anesthesiology as a Board Certified Anesthesiologist, she discovered the importance and mastered the implementation of several integrative therapeutic modalities. She completed a post doctoral fellowship in pain management at the University of Wisconsin and training in Acupuncture at University of California- Los Angeles. Most recently, Dr. Avery trained in the new field of Mind Body Medicine under Dr. Jim Gordon, Chairman of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. In a consultative private practice in Madison, WI, she integrates nutrition, acupuncture, massage, meditation, guided imagery and movement therapies to help patients develop individualized treatment plans. Patients including children and athletes throughout the region seek her integrative expertise for asthma, depression, irritable bowel syndrome and chronic pain.
Dr. Avery received her MD at the University of Oklahoma and completed a general anesthesia residency at the University of Wisconsin- Madison where she also served as Chief Resident. In addition, she served as an attending physician for the University of Wisconsin's School of Medicine Pain Clinic. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Pam Avery on our clinical faculty.
Dr. John Degrado is an accomplished chiropractic physician with more than 25 years of clinical experience. For all those years, Dr. DeGrado has been incorporating nutritional interventions and consultation well before it became main stream in the chiropractic field. A graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic, Dr. DeGrado also received post graduate training in acupuncture. A highly respected and prominent figure in the field, he has been a member of the Kansas Chiropractic Association for over 25 years. During those years, he has served in many capacities including: past President, Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Chairman of the Insurance Committee, Chairman of the Steering as well as Nominating committees. In 2001, he was selected as the Kansas Chiropractic "Doctor of the Year". He is presently the chief chiropractor for Meridian Chiropractic Center in Newton, Kansas. We are very pleased to have him as a devoted and popular member of our clinical faculty.
Dr. Staudenmaier is a very successful chiropractor for over 12 years with literally a world of experience. He was a practicing chiropractor in Tasmania, Australia and completed a clinical internship in Romania. Today, Dr. Staudenmaier incorporates nutritional interventions in his 2 chiropractic wellness centers in Sturgeon Bay and Brussels, WI. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, Dr. Staudenmaier was a star
collegiate track and field athlete. He went on to receive his Doctorate at the Logan College of Chiropractic in Missouri and completed a doctoral thesis in "Chiropractic Effects on the Cerebral Palsy Patient". With a strong commitment to educating the community and a talent for public speaking, Dr. Staudenmaier hosts a call in radio talk show on wellness broadcasted throughout WI. Dr. Simmons is a dedicated naturopathic physician and a creative force in the emerging wellness industry. For the past 8 years, she has devoted her clinical expertise to her practice, Asarum Natural Healthcare located in Montclair and Denville, NJ. By integrating a full complement of natural health modalities such as nutraceuticals, herbs and homeopathy, Dr. Simmons has developed an exceptionally loyal patient following. Her creative spirit and entrepreneurial talents led her to be the founder of a wellness program for moms, Spa Moms. With her commitment to teaching the next generation of practitioners, she facilitated an elective course in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry- New Jersey. Dr. Samana Zulu is a physician and surgeon who during his residency recognized the critical role of nutrition in healing. Integrating nutritional interventions, gene SNP testing, as well as traditional medical and surgical approaches in his private practice, Dr. Zulu offers an unusually comprehensive and holistic set of options and therapeutics to all his patients.
After receiving his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Maryland College of Medicine, he successfully completed the grueling 5 year general surgery residency at Howard University Hospital with service as Chief Resident. He then served as a surgical attending physician at Howard University. For his dedication and outstanding teaching abilities, he has received several distinguished teaching awards including the Department of Surgery Certificate for "Superior Performance in Teaching and Training of Residents" at Howard University. In addition, his research interests include "The Effects of the Plant Glycoside Saponin on the Shape of Sickled Red Blood Cells". In 2001, he was the recipient of the prestigious "Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey Humanism in Medicine Award" for his distinguished and generous medical service to the community. With an extensive thirst for knowledge and an unyielding desire to search for truth in healing and wellness, Dr. Milan Moore represents a new breed of orthopedic surgeon. His personal commitment and energy in all he undertakes comes as no surprise to this physician and gentleman with exceptional credentials.
A graduate of Yale University with a BA in economics, Summa Cum Laude, Dr. Moore chose to pursue both an MD and Master's Degree in Public Health at the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Moore was then accepted to the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical center for residency in orthopedic surgery. He continued his training as a post-doctoral fellow in Joint Replacement at the Anderson Postgraduate Medical Education Foundation in Alexandria, VA.
Dr. Moore also authored numerous original research papers in his field. After a period of frustration with the limitations of surgical intervention and the realization that many of his own patients were not given any direction or education for their underlying health issues such as obesity, chronic inflammation, and poor healing, Dr. Moore discovered the role and efficacy of nutritional interventions. Today, Dr. Moore routinely integrates nutritional therapies, weight management programs, and nutrigenetics in his private orthopedic practice in Washington State.

With a wealth of clinical experience and education, Dr. Deedra Rae Mason has consistently contributed to the health and well being of her patients and the community. A graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, she received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. Presently, she is a founder and practicing naturopathic physician for the Sachi Wellness Center in Portland, Oregon emphasizing lifestyle assessments and family health.
In addition, Dr. Mason is a lead coordinator for the Willamette Wellness Community promoting community health education. Her passion for teaching is evidenced by her commitment to the Mount Hood Community College as an Allied Health Adjunct Faculty. Her love for her field and her alma mater is demonstrated by her regular participation in the preceptorship program for students at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Kathy O'Neil-Smith is a physician of exceptional achievement. Recently, after practicing conventional internal medicine, Dr. O'Neil-Smith recognized the importance and power of nutritional interventions by pursuing a post-doctoral fellowship in functional and anti-aging medicine. Her new consultative practice in the Boston area focuses exclusively on nutrition, wellness, weight management, lifestyle changes and nutritional genetics.
She received both her BS and M.D. at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. O'Neil-Smith then completed an internal medicine residency at the prestigious Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School.
As a former international competitor of the U.S. National Rowing Team, she competed in women's rowing during the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. She then became assistance coach, U.S. Olympic Rowing Squad and was the captain of the Women's Crew Team at Boston University. For her professional achievement, she received the American Medical Women's Association Janet Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award, Merck Manual Award and is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. We are proud to have Dr. Kathy O'Neil-Smith as a member of the clinical faculty.
With over 14 years of experience in the use of herbals, nutrition and chelation therapy as well as conventional treatments, Dr. Andrew Lipton provides considerable expertise in integrative medicine, family and osteopathic medicine. In addition, Dr. Lipton has formal training in integrative therapies by the American College for Advancement in Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Presently, Dr. Lipton is a coinvestigator for a National Institute of Health (NIH) study evaluating the efficacy of intravenous chelation therapy in cardiac patients.
Dr. Lipton received his Doctor of Osteopathy at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, Missouri and completed a residency in Family Medicine at Suburban General Hospital, Norristown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lipton is board certified in Family Medicine, certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromuscular Skeletal Medicine and board certified by the American Board of Chelation Therapy.

Dr. Miller-Ihli has more than 25 years experience conducting human nutrition research and is a nationally recognized speaker on nutrition, nutrition policy and healthy eating. Dr. Miller-Ihli served as the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Program Leader for Nutrition. As National Program Leader, she authored a white paper on obesity for the White House to summarize the challenge and offer solutions. In addition, she supported the USDA's database on the proanthocyandin content of foods. Dr. Miller-Ihli is the senior author of 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications and her nutrition research has been supported by the USDA, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. She received her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Miller-Ihli is a strong proponent of low-glycemic-index eating and is committed to community-based nutrition education. Presently, she consults with health professionals throughout the U.S. regarding weight-management and nutraceutical programs. We are proud to have her as a member of our nutraMetrix faculty for both curriculum development and speaking.
With over 15 years experience in the nutraceutical, health care and pharmaceutical research and management, Dr. Lange provides considerable expertise in the field of nutraceuticals. Dr. Lange has earned a national reputation in the nutraceutical field for Quality Control policies and analytical testing methods and standards. As Science Director for the Institute for Nutraceutical Advancement, Dr. Lange provided scientific and managerial expertise for the entire nutraceutical industry. As a graduate student, Dr. Lange researched novel rapid glucose sensing assays that led to the development of home blood sugar monitors.
Dr. Lange has a personal interest in the role of nutrients in cell energy metabolism and has lectured to audiences nationwide on the science and role of nutraceuticals for clinical practice.
Presently, Dr. Lange is the Director of Quality Control for nutraMetrix and Market America. In addition, he is a member of the Clinical Research Committee and evaluates research proposals, develops research protocols and edits submitted manuscripts regarding nutraceutical clinical trials.
Dr. Lange received his BS in Chemistry at Tennessee Technological University and his PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Dr. Wilmer provides an unmatched breadth and depth of scientific expertise to the Educational Institute. As Chief Science Officer for nutraMetrix Advanced Nutraceuticals, he oversees product development, product evaluation and related scientific issues. He received his PhD in environmental toxicology/nutritional biochemistry from the prestigious Cornell University. As a post-doc fellow, he conducted original research in the molecular and cellular mechanisms of skin and liver inflammation at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NIH. Prior to returning to graduate school, Dr. Wilmer conducted research in genetic toxicology and human cytogenetics at Oak Ridge Associated University, the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Author and co-author of 43 publications in peer reviewed basic science journals; Dr. Wilmer is an accomplished researcher. And by working with nutraceuticals for over 10 years, Dr. Wilmer provides an exceptional expertise to the Educational Institute.
Dr. Frank Schonlau's fundamental intrigue and belief in the role of preventative nutritional intervention for degenerative conditions has been a guiding force in his career and outlook. He has published scores of articles in peer reviewed international basic science and medical journals on the role and efficacy of bioflavonoids in disease states. This passion has led to a natural career progression as the present Director of Science Communication of Horphag, Research UK - a leader in bioflavonoid research and development. In this position, Dr. Schonlau is a guiding force for research efforts and scientific communication as he advances our understanding of oxidative stress, the efficacy and mechanisms of bioflavonoids in health.
An accomplished research biochemist, Dr. Schonlau's career commenced with research and development of tumor specific anti-cancer drugs as part of the European Community research program "Europe against Cancer" at the University Clinics of Munster, Germany. Later, Dr. Schonlau continued his research on anti-cancer drup development and worked on the synthesis of melatonin derivatives for improved bioavailability at the Haddo Laboratories, Royal Hospital in Sutton Surry, UK. At the Institute of Experimental Dermatology, University Clinics of Munster Germany, Dr. Schonlau investigated inflammatory processes, would healing, vascular disorders and angiogenesis. A graduate of the University of Munster, Germany, Dr. Schonlau received his PhD in biochemistry.
With over 40 years combined experience in academics, research, corporate consulting and clinical practice, Dr. DeBusk is considered a pioneer in the emerging field of nutritional genomics. Regarded as a national authority in nutrition, genetics and dietetics, Dr. DeBusk has lectured throughout the country on nutritional genomics, authored leading textbooks and chapters and has been the recipient of some of the most prestigious awards and honors in the field.
Trained as a nutrition professional, geneticist and molecular biologist, Dr. DeBusk was an Assistant Professor of Genetics at Florida State University for many years. Her research focused on genetic regulation of nutrient absorption in response to environmental signals. With an entrepreneurial spirit, hardly common for professor in the mid-eighties, she and a group of graduate students founded a biotechnology company to develop genetic diagnostic assays for the food industry. She went on to form a second company that used DNA profiling for identifying individuals. These experiences provided the foundation for establishing her clinical practice in the early stages of the integration of genetics into health care. As a clinician, her role has ranged from genetic counseling to gastroenterology-related nutrition therapy to gene=based nutritional interventions as that technology has evolved.
Dr. DeBusk is also a prolific and accomplished writer. Over the years, as a university professor, she has authored dozens of research publications in nutrition and genetics. In addition, she has authored leading references for clinicians including: Herbs as Medicine: What You Should Know, Integrative Medicine: Your Quick Reference Guide and the American Dietetic Association's Genetics: The Nutrition Connection. In 2006 with Yael Joeffe, RD, she coauthored the popular first of-its-kind lay person primer, Its Not Just Your Genes.
Her outstanding accomplishments have not gone unrecognized. A past recipient of numerous distinguished awards, in 2007 she was honored with the Harold Harper Award for Science and Practice of the American College for Advancement in Medicine.
After receiving her BS at Trinity University, San Antonio, she pursued a dual doctorate in nutrition/food science and Genetics/Molecular biology.
Presently she is adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where she teaches a graduate level course in nutritional genomics.
The son of a physician and a practicing internist in New York City for 30 years, Dr. Steven Lamm observed early in life the art of healing and the importance of educating his patients with a duty to communicate to the public. Dr. Lamm developed a highly devoted patient following with a focus on wellness, nutritional interventions, weight management, and men's sexual health. As a principal investigator, he evaluated the role of nutraceuticals, including Pcynogenol, in men's sexual health and, as a co-investigator, numerous pharmacologic trials.
An accomplished author, Dr. Lamm wrote the ground breaking Hardness Factor - which relates cardiovascular health to men's sexual performance - Virility Solutions, and Younger at Last, to name a few. Appreciating the power and responsibility of the media to disseminate quality health information and as a highly skilled communicator, Dr. Lamm is a health reporter for "The Today Show-Weekend" on NBC and is a guest on numerous radio and TV shows, including Barbara Walter's "The View" on ABC.
After obtaining his BA at Columbia University and Doctor of Medicine at NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Lamm received post-graduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology at the prestigious Bellevue/NYU Hospitals. Dr. Lamm continues to impart his cutting edge clinical skills to the next generation of physicians as Assistant Clinical Professor at NYU School of medicine.
